October-iness

It is feeling very October. Jeff is watching as many horror movies as he can in honor of Halloween month, and creepy monsters are becoming a bit more prevalent around here.

It is also Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. We will be celebrating again with our friends Vanessa and Jason as we did last year, though this year there will be the addition of their almost 10-month-old at the table. This morning I baked a pie, we have bread baking in the breadmaker, and Jeff is preparing some of our garden vegetables.
I have said it before and I will say it again – Thanksgiving is a great holiday to celebrate twice, particularly the pumpkin pie part.

I also experimented with a sweet potato ice cream recipe yesterday. I was skeptical, because it is a fairly healthy recipe, and very healthy as ice cream goes: the only ingredients are sweet potatoes, milk, spices, and a bit of brown sugar. The result was surprisingly good – creamy, smooth, and delicious. I'm not sure if I could see myself eating it year-round, but it will definitely be a regular in the rotation for fall!

I can get on board with sweet potato ice cream! Send me the recipe link maybe? Karen is very envious of jephs Halloween budget and starting Halloween shopping yesterday. :)
