Gi-earth boomsmash

Jeff and Linden were playing ice cream shop, and Linden said that the ice cream flavour was gi-earth boomsmash. Now I kind of want to make some ice cream and call it that, but I am really not sure what flavour it would be 😂

Linden is skipping a lot of naps lately and having some two year old style meltdowns. She is also getting four molars all at once, so I don’t blame her. Our Covid numbers are finally going down substantially, and the museum near our house finally reopened today. You have to book spots online instead of just showing up, and they are only letting a few people in at a time. We went this afternoon, and unfortunately it had been a no nap kind of day and about halfway through Linden just completely lost it. I think you could hear her screaming through the whole museum. But the only way out was through so we quickly did the rest of the loop through the museum and then left.

But despite some crankiness there has also been some lovely sister playing. This morning they made a potion:

I don’t know what it is about potions, but they are magical 😊

Dancing and swinging

Somewhere Linden must have heard the phrase singing and dancing, but misunderstood it as swinging and dancing. So here she is:

The weather has been crazy over the past week, going from a high of 33°C to a high of 5°C in two days. People here say that the month of May is called May because it may be hot, it may flood, it may snow, it may freeze, etc.

So we made popsicles one day because it was hot, and baked muffins the next day because it was cold and having the oven on sounded cozy. We managed to plant our garden this weekend, which will forever feel super late to me (because in Oregon some things would have been planted months ago) but is right on time for here.

This afternoon Maren wanted to play inside and made up her own extremely complicated game.

When it came time to play, she adjusted the rules slightly so that it was playable. We tied :-)

Madge Lake

This weekend we decided get out of town. We went to a place about three hours from here called Madge Lake.

It was generally a good trip. We were there for two nights (in a cabin with contactless check in so we basically didn’t even see anyone), and no one slept the first night. Long story, but the short story is kids. The second night sleep was better. We saw lots of wildlife, including a moose on the way home, interesting plants, playgrounds, and the lake. We did some hiking. Definitely good to see a new place, and I am sure we will go back!

Mother’s Day

This week our local ice cream shop announced that they now have vegan soft-serve. It comes in 40 different flavours in a cone, and can be used to make sundaes, milkshakes, twisters (like blizzards), or any other treat you can dream up, with the vast list of ingredients they have. So of course we had to go for Mother’s Day.

Pictured are vanilla, kahlua, and strawberry, and Jeff had licorice. We also had a lovely picnic lunch in the backyard. Unfortunately no one slept well last night and there were various melt-downs all day, but the picnic and ice-cream trip went well so they can be the good memories of the day.

Also exciting this week:

Jeff and I got our first covid vaccine doses. As of today 70% of people over 40 in Saskatchewan have gotten their first shot. We are slowly and steadily moving back toward normal!

Backyard bubbles

The weather has been lovely. Friday we barbecued and ate outside, yesterday we played with bubbles in the backyard.

I think fake spring is over and real spring is here!
