On a roll

This week Linden started rolling from back to front, over her left side. She only does it when her diaper is off though. She is very persistent. Before she rolled for the first time she spent a lot of time on her side yelling. Then if I picked her up to try to soothe her distress she would get really really upset and start screaming. So even though she was frustrated by trying to roll, she wanted to keep trying. This lasted a few days, then she finally rolled, and after that she stopped yelling so much. It was like once she had accomplished what she wanted to do she was relieved.

Sleep has been challenging for a while. She wakes up almost every hour right now. I hope things improve soon - it seems like her little brain is learning an awful lot, and I think she needs more sleep. I know Jeff and I do 😊

Today Linden turned four months old, and it is also Canada Day. Here are a few photos:

Exercise

Who says there’s no time for exercise with two little kids?

Maren’s preschool is over for the summer, and last Sunday afternoon we went to a farewell celebration. We took home an envelope filled with her artwork, and my favourite is her self-portrait:

Meanwhile, Linden is just chillin’:

Playing Pride

Yesterday was our city’s Pride Parade, and family Pride Festival. We planned to go to the parade after “quiet time “ - where Maren rests or plays quietly in her room. She is transitioning away from napping, and having quiet time seems to be a good way to make that transition. Jeff went to get her from her room so we could go to the parade, and to our great surprise she was sleeping! So no parade for us. Oh well, maybe next year.

We did go to the pride celebration in the park, but Linden was upset by the loud music, and it was not such nice weather - cloudy, and kind of cold. Not cold like winter, but we have come to expect nice weather in the summer, and it was definitely jeans and hoodie weather. So we left after not too long. Maren was disappointed about missing the parade and disappointed about leaving early (there was a bounce castle that she only took one turn in and she wanted to dance to the music). So as soon as we got home Maren started to dress up and informed us that she was “playing pride.”

So happy Pride to everyone, and happy Father’s Day to all the dads/families with dads!

Also this weekend we had a swing set built in our backyard. In some ways it is really for me - we have a playground literally directly across the street from our house, but it poses serious accessibility problems due to deep gravel that my mobility aids can’t traverse. So having swings in our backyard allows me to easily play with Maren (and eventually Linden) on the swings. Since the weather hasn’t been great we haven’t been outside much, but I am really looking forward to some quality swinging time. Here is a photo taken by the builder:

I’m sure we will have photos with kids on it soon!

Park trip, new skills, popsicles, and ice cream

On Thursday we decided to take a day trip to a provincial park. These photos sum up Linden’s take on doing something unfamiliar - tolerant , then upset a little, and finally very unhappy:

But the rest of us had fun getting out in nature.

Linden’s new skill this week is grabbing onto things:

Unfortunately she hasn’t yet learned how to let go, so gets upset after a while when she wants her hands back.

We have been enjoying the summer weather with popsicles and ice cream!

Photos from the week

Tummy time, lunch on the deck, Linden turning 3 months old and unsure about being held by big sister, Maren finding her first sprouting bean plant, dandelions, and preparing to plant apple trees. An eventful week!
