Aaaand it’s summer

In Saskatchewan we have a very short spring, and it is already summer. We have had a bit of smoke from wildfires blowing in, but even though it looks a little cloudy it is warm, bordering on too hot. We have been spending a lot of time outside:

And today was the Victoria Day holiday, and the kickoff of our local arts festival, https://cvaf.ca/, where we watched a parade and picnicked in the park while listening to live music. We met up with friends, and after a while went back to their house where the kids ran through the sprinkler, ate popsicles and spent all afternoon outside. Then barbecue for dinner, followed by a trip to the park. Those long summer days have arrived! Unless next week brings winter back, which is not unheard of around here, but we won’t think about that 🤣

Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

This morning Maren and Linden gave me an avalanche of cards and presents they had made over the past couple of weeks:

Then we went on a little hike:

Jeff and the kids made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for me:

and even though many were burned, others were delicious. We finished off the day with a backyard barbecue:

Happy Mother’s Day!

Outside day

For the first time since last fall, we spent most of the day outside.

Yesterday we put training wheels on Maren‘s old bike, and Linden was able to ride for the first time:

Today, we spent the day walking, biking, playing, and just enjoying the warm air.

Happy spring!

Saskatchewan spring

The last few weeks have been a bit of a slog. It is the end of the semester here, meaning, we have final papers to grade and all that. But much worse than that, we thought it was the end of winter and then we had another big snowstorm.

For years I have talked about how delusional people here are, thinking that spring arrives in March. But this year I fell prey to it too – once the snow had melted I thought it was gone for good, and when the snowstorm hit last week, I thought we were having a particularly long winter. However, historical data show that this is not at all late for a snowstorm here. I guess if you live here long enough you have to become delusional,  because otherwise you realize just how awful these winters are. But now this latest round of snow is starting to melt, and fingers crossed that spring really has arrived.

And now some cute kid pictures, because that is really why you come here 😁
